Few women experience post ovulation symptoms, but some may have night sweats or hot flashes for a day or two after ovulation due to changing hormone levels. Progesterone is the hormone associated with hot flashes and night sweats and Progesterone levels peak during ovulation. When post ovulation symptoms are present, symptoms may actually be early signs of pregnancy, although most women do not experience pregnancy symptoms until two weeks post conception/pregnancy.
Night Sweats and Hot Flashes
Some women may experience night sweats and hot flashes after ovulation, but these may also be early signs of pregnancy. These post ovulation symptoms are caused by changing hormone levels which occur naturally following ovulation, but also occur when conception is achieved. Women who do not normally have post ovulation symptoms and develop night sweats or hot flashes may be experiencing the first signs of pregnancy, not side effects of post ovulation hormone fluctuations.
Sore or Swollen Breasts
Some women experience breast tenderness prior to ovulation, but this usually disappears once ovulation occurs. Continued breast tenderness is not considered a post ovulation symptom, but may be a symptom of early pregnancy. If conception occurs, the hormone levels may cause breasts to remain sore or even swell. This is one of the earliest and most common symptoms of pregnancy and is caused by high levels of the hormone Progesterone and other pregnancy-induced hormones.
Nausea and Dizziness
Nausea and dizziness are not normal ovulation symptoms. Women who experience these symptoms prior to or during ovulation should see a physician to rule out ovarian cysts. When nausea and dizziness occur after ovulation, they are most often early signs of pregnancy. Like night sweats and hot flashes, these post ovulation symptoms are caused by rapidly increasing hormone levels that create changes in the body necessary for pregnancy and birth.
Pre-Menstrual Syndrome (PMS)
Pre menstrual syndrome is a documented condition characterized by depression, irritability and aggressive behavior. It is also one of the few post ovulation symptoms not associated with pregnancy. PMS usually begins shortly after ovulation and symptoms continue to increase until the next menses. Like other symptoms, it is believed to be related to hormone levels. Effective treatments for PMS are available and women with this condition should consult a physician.
Post Ovulation Symptoms For Clomid Users
Clomid is a fertility drug which raises levels of the hormone progesterone and is used to induce ovulation in women who want to become pregnant but no longer produce eggs or ova. As mentioned before, Progesterone is a hormone responsible for breast tenderness and other pre-ovulation symptoms and may cause hot flashes, night sweats, headaches and other post ovulation symptoms. Some women have also reported post ovulation symptoms of depression or emotionalism. Post ovulation symptoms for women on Clomid or fertility drugs may be much more severe than the symptoms of women not taking medication.
Post ovulation symptoms are not present in the majority of women and when symptoms do occur, they are usually mild and do not pose any medical problems. Women taking Clomid or other fertility drugs, however, may have more pronounced post ovulation symptoms due to the changes in hormone levels caused by the medication. Women should keep in mind that many post ovulation symptoms may actually be early signs of pregnancy.
